Bio

Hello!  My name is Anna Schmitz, and this will be my eighth year teaching K-5 music at MAES!  I grew up in Iowa and studied music (French horn and cello) at the University of Northern Iowa.  Later, I earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from Southwestern College in Kansas.  Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Music Education degree from Georgia College and State University.  I am also the MAES Notable Knights chorus director for 3rd-5th graders who choose to participate in this extra-curricular activity (we meet Thursdays after school).  In addition to teaching general music, I have several middle school and high school private French horn students and I teach horn at Mercer University in Macon, GA.  I also play with the Wellston Winds concert band in my spare time, and I am a frequent guest clinician for horn at several middle schools and high schools in the region.

My husband, Dr. Christopher Schmitz, is professor of music theory and composition at Mercer University.  We are very excited to travel overseas this fall to hear and see his symphony and his violin concerto recorded by the London Symphony!  We have been married 25 years and have three grown children: Lauren, Brandon, and David, and one playful, elderly dog, Ellie.
